The "DeaLoG" project team visited Yeghegis

Deputy Head of Yeghegis Community Aaron Gabrielyan received the SALAR International “DeaLog” project team, led by Project Manager Shane Quinn.

Welcoming the guests, Aaron Gabrielyan noted that the Yeghegis community is happy for the meeting and, after getting acquainted with the details of the project, is ready to discuss possible cooperation and joint work.

Shane Quinn, Head of the “DeaLog” project “Support to Decentralisation and Local Self-Government Reforms in Armenia”, presented in detail the areas of activity and goals of the project.

Varsenik Mnatsakanyan, Head of the Armenian team of the project, and Garik Khachikyan, Consultant on Local Self-Government Issues, presented in detail to the Deputy Head of the community the format of school-community cooperation, the successes achieved, and the upcoming activities.

At the request of the project team, Aharon Gabrielyan presented the peculiarities of the Yeghegis community after the unification of the communities, as well as the existing problems in the community, various issues related to the councils of elders, residents' participation, participatory budgeting, public accountability, and schools.

The parties discussed issues related to decentralisation, the education sector, as well as community development.

Deputy Head of the community Aharon Gabrielyan expressed his willingness to get involved in the program and actively work towards the development of school-community cooperation.

Issues related to inter-community associations and the Union of Communities of Armenia were also discussed at the meeting.

The “DeaLog” project team, accompanied by Aharon Gabrielyan, toured the community, visited the newly built secondary school in Yeghegis, got acquainted with the building conditions, and toured the school building. Project Manager Shane Quinn, Project Team Leader in Armenia Varsenik Mnatsakanyan, and Local Government Advisor Garik Khachikyan presented details of the educational component of the project to the school's teaching staff and discussed issues related to educational decentralisation and school-community cooperation.
