United States Agency for International Development

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is an agency of the United States federal government primarily responsible for coordinating aid to other countries.

USAID helps people abroad who are struggling to find a better life, recover from disaster, and live in a free and democratic country.[5] USAID's goals include providing economic and humanitarian assistance consistent with U.S. foreign policy throughout the world.[6] It operates in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe, and particularly Armenia.

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy created USAID to provide development assistance to countries designated by Congress under the Foreign Assistance Act.

Since 1992, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been the leading donor agency in Armenia, managing nearly two-thirds of U.S. assistance. The USAID mission in Armenia works with the Armenian public, government, non-governmental organizations and businesses, as well as other donors, to improve Armenia’s economic competitiveness, promote civic participation and access to diverse media, increase access to health and social services, and protect vulnerable citizens from poverty.
