May 13
The Swiss Cooperation Office in Tbilisi (Georgia) and its program offices in Yerevan (Armenia) and Baku (Azerbaijan) coordinate and monitor Swiss cooperation in the South Caucasus, in close contact with the Swiss embassies in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Switzerland's cooperation with the South Caucasus began with the devastating earthquake that occurred in northern Armenia in 1988. The Swiss Cooperation Office for the South Caucasus (SCO), represented by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), was established in Tbilisi in 1999, with country offices in Yerevan and Baku opened in 2001 and 2002, respectively.
SDC was one of the first to invest in rural economic development and is known for its special support to vulnerable conflict-affected and disaster-affected people in Georgia and Armenia. SECO is recognized for its support for the development of the non-oil sector in Azerbaijan and for managing the country’s revenues in a more transparent and accountable manner.
Through its long-standing involvement in the region, Switzerland has built strong and trustworthy relationships with the governments and populations of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Over the past fifteen years, cooperation projects initiated by Switzerland have contributed to improving the living conditions of people in the target areas and to better strengthening institutions. action. Swiss diplomacy has provided its good services and supported dialogue processes and confidence-building measures to constructively resolve conflicts affecting the region.
