On April 15, the head of Parakar community, Onik Akhverdyan, received the monitoring delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
The main purpose of the visit was to carry out a general assessment of the state of local democracy in the community, as well as to establish constructive dialogue with local authorities in the context of Armenia’s commitments under the European Charter of Local Self-Government.
The head of the community, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and the development of local democracy, presented the current situation in the community, ongoing programs, and governance priorities.
During the discussions, the delegation focused on the implementation process of the provisions of the Charter, as well as on assessing the monitoring process of its application in Armenia.
Onik Akhverdyan emphasized his approach to open, transparent, and accountable governance, highlighting the importance of residents’ participation and trust in local self-government processes.
It should be noted that the Congress delegation will prepare a corresponding report and recommendations regarding the implementation of the Charter.
The report will be presented in Strasbourg.
